Four Hogs Named NCBWA All-Americans
DALLAS – Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy, Charles Davalan, Kuhio Aloy and Zach Root were named All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Davalan and the Aloy brothers garnered second-team recognition, while Root collected third-team praise. Kuhio Aloy earned his first All-America honor to become the 38th All-American in program history and 23rd All-American in the Dave Van Horn era.
Through 61 games, Wehiwa Aloy is slashing .348/.433/.668 with a team-leading 20 home runs and 64 RBI. The SEC Player of the Year, who has started every game at shortstop this season, is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Trophy and Brooks Wallace Award. Aloy also leads the Hogs in runs scored (78), total bases (167) and multi-hit games (28).
His younger brother, Kuhio, is slashing .330/.415/.5646 with 13 home runs and a team-leading 70 RBI across 57 games this season. The sophomore, who is in his first season at Arkansas after transferring from BYU, earned first-team All-SEC honors as the Razorbacks’ primary designated hitter.
Davalan, meanwhile, is slashing .355/.444/.586 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 61 games this year. The Razorback outfielder, who earned first-team All-SEC honors, leads the team in hits (89) and ranks second in runs scored (68), total bases (147) and multi-hit games (27). Davalan also boasts Arkansas’ longest reached base streak (35 games) this season.
Root has assumed the role of Arkansas’ ace this season, posting an 8-5 record with a 3.59 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 92.2 innings across 17 starts. The left-hander, who earned first-team All-SEC honors, is limiting opposing hitters to a meager .221 batting average and boasts a team-leading seven quality starts on the mound this year.
