SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Arkansas sophomore Cara Gorlei carded her best score of the week with a 3-over 75 in the final round of the 2017 NCAA Championship stroke play at Rich Harvest Farms on Monday.

Gorlei, playing in the event as an individual, shot 84–77–75—236 finishing tied for 74th overall.

The Capetown, South Africa, native moved up 11 spots in the final round finishing with one birdie and four bogeys on Monday. Challenging weather plagued the event, which was shortened from 72 to 54 holes after Saturday’s round was rained out.

Monday’s final round saw Gorlei open strong with a birdie on No. 2. It was the second time she birdied that hole and her fourth birdie of the tournament. She played 1-under through six holes but picked up a pair of bogeys before making the turn. Gorlei added two more bogeys on the back nine to finish 3-over on the day.

Gorlei finishes the season with a 74.06 stroke average after playing in all 11 events for the second consecutive season. Arkansas graduated one senior from the spring roster, returning five players with significant experience for next season. In addition, the Razorbacks welcomed three newcomers during the early signing period.

From Shauna Estes-Taylor
Cara learned a lot from this experience. She improved every day and also learned a tremendous amount from playing Rich Harvest Farms. It’s a championship golf course that tests you at every level. As her coach, I’ve seen Cara’s game grow and improve so much over the past two seasons. This experience tested her and will help her continue to grow and improve as a player. She will walk away this week a more complete player with the confidence of knowing her game is very close to breaking through.
