SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Cara Gorlei returned to the golf course today as the field of 132 players was able to resume play for round two of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

Saturday’s round was rained out and the stroke play portion of the event has been shortened from four rounds to three, with the final round taking place on Monday.

“Cara played very solid today,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “It’s a demanding golf course off the tee and that was really the only place that she lost a few shots today. She is a tremendous ball hitter and placing your shots in the correct sections of this golf course is key. Cara is due for a great round and I believe she will get the good draw on weather tomorrow. I know we are looking forward to having another shot at Rich Harvest Farms tomorrow.”

Weather has been a factor throughout the tournament. Players competed on Friday in driving rain, wind and cool temperatures in the 40’s. Saturday’s play was moved to Sunday and the wind was still a factor.

Gorlei opened her day on the back nine of the par 72, 6,343-yard course at Rich Harvest Farms. She began the day with consecutive par performances on the first four holes. Gorlei ran into trouble with her first bogey on No. 14 but got the stroke back after a great tee shot on No. 16. She drained the putt on the par 3 hole to return to even.

Gorlei struggled with a triple bogey on No. 17 and turned three over moving to the front side of the golf course. She picked up four more bogeys and added two birdies in her next nine holes and finished the day with a 5-over 77.

Gorlei is in the clubhouse with rounds of 84–77—161 and moved up 17 spots from a tie for 102nd to a tie for 85th after round two.
