Gorlei Interview | Shauna Estes-Taylor Interview

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas sophomore Cara Gorlei will travel as an individual to the 2017 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, Illinois, on Friday.

Gorlei qualified for the four-round event after a tie for seventh place at the 2017 NCAA Columbus Regional. The Cape Town, South Africa native shot 74–72–74—220. Gorlei helped Arkansas to its best round of the weekend with a 300 on the final day, but the team fell two shots short of advancing to the NCAA Championship. Gorlei moves on as one of the top three individual players from the Columbus Regional who were not on a team that advanced.

Gorlei has NCAA experience having played with the Razorbacks as a team last year. She has been a steady contributor for Arkansas in her first two seasons and has three top 10 finishes this year.

In her freshman season, Gorlei was Arkansas’ second lowest finisher in the postseason. Two of her four NCAA Championship rounds were at par or under and her four-round total of 292 was 4-over for the week. Gorlei and the Razorbacks finished tied for 12th overall, missing the cut by just seven strokes.

Gorlei is the second Razorback individual to take part in the NCAA Championship. Former Razorback and #ProHogs Stacy Lewis qualified in 2007. Lewis went on to win the NCAA individual title that year.

The Golf Channel will televise the final round of the individual stroke play with coverage beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 22. They will also air team match play on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition, live scoring is available here.
