Gymbacks Get Nine Seed, Placed in Lexington Regional
Regional competition is up next for the Gymbacks, and they’re headed to the Bluegrass State with some familiar foes as the No. 9 overall national seed.
All four of the seeded squads at next week’s Lexington Regional are from the SEC: No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Missouri, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 16 Kentucky, who will serve as host. The remaining field at the regional site will include NC State, Maryland, Ohio State, Central Michigan and Rutgers.
After a first round dual meet between Central Michigan and Rutgers on Thursday, April 2, the regional semifinals begin on Friday, April 3. The Gymbacks will compete in the first session of the day with Missouri, NC State, and Maryland at 12 p.m. CT at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington. The evening session will consist of Oklahoma, Kentucky, Ohio State and the winner of Central Michigan and Rutgers at 6 p.m.
The top two teams from each Friday semifinal will move on to Sunday’s regional final, set for 4 p.m. Two from the regional final will advance to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth April 16-18.
Arkansas carries a 197.170 team NQS into regionals, and the nine seed is the highest for Arkansas since 2010, the highest in head coach Jordyn Wieber’s tenure, and ties for highest ever. Monday’s selection is the 22nd straight regional appearance for Arkansas. Under Wieber, the Gymbacks have advanced to the regional final in four times and have earned one team berth to nationals in 2024.
All sessions of regional competition will be streamed live on ESPN+.
