Gymbacks vs. GymDogs Set for Friday in Athens

No. 15 Arkansas gymnastics will return to Athens on Friday as the Gymbacks are set to take on the No. 11 GymDogs for an SEC dual.

Arkansas’ series with Georgia dates back to the Razorbacks’ first season of competition in 2003, and the GymDogs lead 37-12-1 While the Gymbacks are on the losing side of the series, 10 of their 12 wins have come in the last eight seasons and eight have been under head coach Jordyn Wieber. Arkansas is currently on a six-meet win streak against Georgia and has an average score of 196.900 in those contests.

Wieber led the Gymbacks to their first-ever win in Athens in 2021, and following a relocation due to maintenance at Stegeman Coliseum in 2023, the Hogs haven’t competed in Athens since that victory.

The Bulldogs, who lead the NCAA in total women’s gymnastics championships with 10, are a team on the rise under the leadership of first season co-head coaches Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and Ryan Roberts. Georgia is currently No. 11 in the country and No. 8 on both vault and bars.

Canqueteau-Landi was the Team USA head coach at the 2024 Paris Olympics and previously coached elite athletes at World Champions Centre, home gym of Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and freshman Gymback Joscelyn Roberson.

Arkansas is coming off its second upset of the No. 2 team in the country this season as the Razorbacks defeated Florida last week at home. On top of the victory, Arkansas scored 197.175 on the night, a new season high. The Gymbacks also posted season bests on vault (49.300) and bars (49.400) on the meet.

Friday’s competition is set for 6 p.m. CT in Athens and will be broadcast live on SEC Network with Alex Perlman and Samantha Peszek on the call.
