Higginbottom Surpasses 25 Points for the 14th Time as Arkansas Falls to Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Arkansas women’s basketball (9-16, 2-8 SEC) fell to Mississippi State (17-7, 4-6 SEC), 78-55, inside Humphrey Coliseum on Thursday night.

Senior guard Izzy Higginbottom finished with 26 points before she fouled out in the fourth quarter. The Batesville, Ark. native has led the Hogs in scoring in 19 games this season. She went a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line for the second straight game, her 11th perfect outing as a Razorback.

In the first quarter, Higginbottom went to the line 11 times, an Arkansas player’s most free throws in a quarter since at least 2005. Higginbottom’s 13 free throws in the first half were the most in a half since 2019. The Hogs attempted 12 free throws before Mississippi State made its first appearance at the line.

From the field, Higginbottom went 6-13 with one three pointer. She surpassed the 25-point mark for the 14th time this season, which leads the NCAA.

Arkansas trailed the entire game and Mississippi State held on to a 20-plus point lead for most of the second half. The Razorbacks got as close as eight points, in the second quarter, after Higginbottom was fouled and converted the and-one. The Hogs finished the first half on a nearly three-minute scoring drought.

The home team got up by 27 points in the fourth quarter and outscored Arkansas, 16-11, to close out the game. Both teams finished 4 of their last 5 from the field.

For the game, Arkansas shot 38% (19-50) from field, compared to Mississippi State’s 47.1% (33-70). The Bulldogs had five players in double figures, led by Jerkaila Jordan and Debreasha Powe with 16 points each.
