No. 2 Arkansas in the Lead After Day 1 at Darius Rucker Invitational
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – No. 2 Arkansas women’s golf, led by senior Kendall Todd (1st, -3), ended the first round of the loaded Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in first place (+4) with a 1-shot lead over LSU.
The par-71 Long Cove Club played difficult on Monday, with only six of the 90 golfers in the tournament finishing day one under par. Todd paced the field with a mixed bag of scores including six birdies, one bogey and one double-bogey.
Todd closed out her best round of the spring with a 20-foot putt on the par-4 18th hole to give her the solo lead and push the Razorbacks ahead of the Tigers.
Two other Hogs, Reagan Zibilski and Abbey Schutte, finished the day 1-over par and tied for 13th place, four shots back of Todd’s lead. Zibilski, 2-under after the first nine, struggled after the turn, with two bogeys and one double bogey on No. 14. She made it up with a long-range putt for birdie on No. 17.
Schutte, coming off a top-10 finish at the Chevron Collegiate, also doubled No. 14. The sophomore birdied back-to-back holes to finish out the day with a 72.
Maria José Marin (+5, T51), the top-ranked collegiate golfer, got off to a sluggish start on the front nine with four bogeys. The sophomore settled down after the turn and was 1-over par on the back nine.
