Hogs Head To Mexico To Open Spring Season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 15 Arkansas Women’s Golf is set to start its spring season tomorrow, as they will head to Guadalajara, Mexico, to take part in the 2020 IJGA Collegiate Invitational. The Razorbacks will once again be part of a stacked field, including No. 2 Arizona State, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 8 Stanford, No. 18 LSU and No. 25 Baylor. Cal, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia will also be a part of the loaded tournament. The teams will be playing at the Guadalajara Country Club, and the tournament will be hosted by the University of Virginia.

Redshirt sophomore Brooke Matthews will lead the charge, as she holds down the first slot in Head Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor’s inaugural 2020 lineup. Matthews showed what she could do over the fall season, as she registered two top-25 finishes, nabbing a share of 16th at the Cougar Classic while placing 23rd at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Matthews also played five rounds under par during the fall campaign. Her 72.33 scoring average over the Hogs’ first four events is tied for best on the squad.

In the second spot will be freshman Kajal Mistry, who wasted no time making an impact in her first fall as a Razorback. The first year Hog finished in the top-20 in three of her four events played, including a stellar showing at the loaded ANNIKA Intercollegiate, a tournament in which she took fourth place.

Maria Hoyos will start in the third slot for the Hogs at the IJGA Invitational. This will only be the second event of the season for Hoyos, who also saw action at the Tar Heel. She played well there, registering a top-30 finish courtesy of her one-over performance (74-71-72—217).

Sophomore Ximena Gonzalez will play from the fourth slot in the lineup in her native Mexico. Gonzalez didn’t see action during the fall, but played in seven events during her freshman season, including the SEC Championships, the team’s NCAA Regional and at the NCAA Championships.

Holding down the final spot in the Hogs’ lineup is Julia Gregg, who has played in all four the Razorbacks’ events so far this year. Gregg was reliable for Estes-Taylor in the fall, finishing all but one of the Hogs’ events inside the top-30. Like Mistry, the first-year Hog’s best performance came at the talent-laden ANNIKA, where she finished tied for 19th.
