Jackson Named to Manning Award Stars of the Week List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas junior quarterback KJ Jackson has been named a Manning Star of the Week after his performance during the Razorbacks’ 31-21 victory at Vanderbilt last Saturday, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced.
Jackson was phenomenal in the Razorbacks’ first SEC win of the season. The Montgomery, Ala., product totaled 309 total yards of offense in the victory, completing 21-of-31 passes for 251 yards while rushing 11 times for 58 yards and a touchdown in the win. He became just the third Arkansas quarterback since 1995 to pass for more than 250 yards and rush for 50+ yards in a regulation win over an SEC opponent. Jackson connected with 12 different receivers in the win while helping lead the Hogs to 438 yards of total offense and three touchdown drives.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.
Prior to the season, the Manning Award selected 40 quarterbacks for its Watch List and will add additional quarterbacks on October 23. Finalists will be selected in early December, and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Arkansas enters its Bye Week after a 31-21 win at Vanderbilt last Saturday. The Razorbacks return to the friendly confines of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Oct. 31 when they host Missouri. Game time for the kickoff with the Tigers is set for 6:45 p.m.
