José Marin Named First Team All-American
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Maria José Marin has added another prestigious accolade to her résumé, as she has been tabbed a Division I Women’s Golf Coaches Association First Team All-American, as announced on Friday. José Marin becomes the 10th WGCA First Team All-American in school history, 19th overall, as well as the first to receive All-America honors since 2018-19. She is also one of 15 All-Americans in the Shauna Taylor era, as well as eighth First Team honoree.
“I’m so proud of Maria [José Marin] for another much deserved honor of becoming a First Team All-American,” said Taylor. “Being an All-American is a testament to her consistent play all season long. Maria has had an incredible freshman season and it has been fun to watch her grow and mature on and off the course. Maria joins a list of Razorback greats becoming an All-American. This will be the first of many for her college career!”
José Marin, who is one of 11 to be recognized as a First Team All-American, was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and earned All-SEC First Team and All-Freshman Team honors. A four-time SEC Golfer/Freshman Golfer of the Week, José Marin was one of six named to the WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by Strackaline Watch List and one of 15 on the ANNIKA Award Spring Watch List. José Marin closed out her freshman year ranked No. 6 on the Scoreboard by Clippd ranking and currently sits No. 20 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
In her first NCAA Championship, José Marin tied for fourth with a 5-under 283 (72-68-71-72) to become the fifth Hog to finish in the top five as an individual and first since 2019. Her 283 also became the lowest four-round score since Stacy Lewis’ 282 in 2007 when she won the individual national championship. José Marin also tied for eighth at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional with an even 216 (68-71-77).
The Cali, Colombia product led the team in scoring average (70.83), adjusted scoring average (68.8), rounds at par or better (23) and rounds in the 60s (8). José Marin finished second in school history in scoring average and par or better rounds. She logged a win at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and had two runner-up showings at the Carmel Cup and MountainView Collegiate, while also registering five top 10 showings and nine inside the top 20.
José Marin has a busy summer with amateur events, which will start by representing Team International at the Arnold Palmer Cup, set for July 5-7 in Lahinch, Ireland. She was also invited to play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships from Aug. 5-11 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Arkansas women’s golf team finished the 2023-24 season as the No. 10 team in the country, finishing in 10th at the NCAA Championship in its 12th appearance in school history, 10th under head coach Taylor.
