Jose Marin Wins Mexican Women’s Amateur

CAMPESTRE LA ROSITA, MEXICO – Arkansas women’s golf signee Maria Jose Marin showed the world just how good she is, winning the Mexican International Amateur Championship on Sunday. She logged a 2-under 286 and won the 70-person field by four strokes. In her first time back in action after coming off an injury, Cory Lopez finished with a 10th place showing with an 18-over 306 in her home country.

Jose Marin was in second place following the second round and moved her way up to first after shooting a 1-under 71 on Saturday, which led the field. She was solid in the final round on Sunday with a two-under 70 to glide her way to the individual medalist title with a 4-under 286 (72-73-71-70). She was the only golfer in the field to shoot at par or under in three of the four rounds.

After some months off the golf course after recovering from an injury, two-time Mexican International Amateur Championship Individual Medalist (2020 and 2021) Lopez was solid in her return, finishing the weekend in a tie for 10th. Her best showing was in the second round, where she shot an even 72. On a tough course, she finished the championship with a 78 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday to round out the weekend with an 18-over 306 (79-72-78-77).
