Koch Named To Academic All-District Team

2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore catcher Grant Koch was voted to the Academic All-District Team Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the second academic honor for Koch in his career and it’s the second-straight year a Razorback has been named academic all-district.

Athletes on the all-district list will have a chance to be voted as CoSIDA Academic All-America. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a primary starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.

Koch has been Arkansas’ primary catcher this season and leads the team with 11 home runs. While his performance on the field has been a big reason for Arkansas being in the thick of the SEC Western Division race, his performance off the field has been just as impressive. Over his nearly two-year career, the Fayetteville native has compiled a 3.71 GPA as a public health major.

On the field, Koch is hitting .297 and leading the team with 24 extra-base hits, 12 of those hits as doubles, and 11 home runs. He’s also slugging a team-leading .570, which is the fifth-highest in the league and his home run total is good for sixth-most in the SEC, most among all catchers.

Behind the plate, Koch has been one of the toughest catchers to steal on in the SEC. He’s caught 11-of-16 would be stolen base attempts, five in conference play. The 11 caught stealing is the third-most in the league and matches his total from last season.

Koch and the Razorbacks are currently in Knoxville, Tennessee for a three-game series against the Volunteers. The series starts tonight at 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network and can be heard on the radio on the Razorback Sports Network.
