Lopez Wins Instant Classic at Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in Sudden Death

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Gaby Lopez drained a 20-foot birdie putt on the seventh hole of a sudden death playoff to win the LPGA Tour’s season-opening Tournament of Champions on Monday.

The former Razorback from Mexico City nabbed her second-career win after draining the putt on the par-three 18th hole. Lopez’s long putt left Nasa Hataoka needing to make a 12-footer to force an eighth playoff hole, but she missed, allowing Lopez to win.

Lopez was magnificent on Sunday to force the sudden death, closing the tournament with a five-under-par 66. She was finished the four-round tournament at 13-under (65-69- 71-66–271).
