No. 1 Hogs Finish Third at Chevron Collegiate, Shoot Lowest 54-Hole Score Since 2018

HUMBLE, Texas – No. 1 Arkansas women’s golf shot its lowest 54-hole team score (-24, 840) since 2018 and finished third at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.

Sophomores Maria José Marin (9th, -8) and Abbey Schutte (T10, -7) led the Hogs individually and scored under par in each of their three rounds. José Marin picked up her 10th top 10 finish and Schutte added her third top 10 in four career tournaments.

The Razorbacks soared up to has high as second place in the third round thanks to 22 birdies and all five players finishing the event under par.

Round One

Arkansas teed off via shotgun start from the back nine at 8:00 a.m. Through the first three holes, the Razorbacks birdied five times but bogeys from Kendall Todd and Reagan Zibilski quickly put the squad back to 1-under par. The Hogs finished 3-under at the turn and parred 11 of the 12 holes to start the second half.

Between Schutte, Todd, Zibilski and Maria José Marin, Arkansas birdied holes four through eight and picked up an eagle from Schutte on the par-5 No. 8. The eagle was Schutte’s first of her sophomore season and the second of her career.

The Hogs finished 7-under par and tied for fourth place after the conclusion of the first round.

Round Two

The Razorbacks began the second 18 of the day immediately following the first and had a relatively uneventful 1-over par start. José Marin parred all of her first nine holes

Once again, Arkansas caught fire after the turn and sank 10 birdies. Two bogeys from freshman Clarisa Temelo, whose first round score was dropped, and a double bogey from Zibilski interrupted the run but the Hogs answered with five more birdies to close out the day in sole possession of fourth place.

Round Three

The Razorbacks saved their best for last and scored 12-under in the final round. Through the first five holes, Arkansas captured nine birdies before José Marin doubled the par-4 eleventh hole. All four counting golfers birdied No. 18.

Temelo shot her second lowest 18-hole score (-5, 67) with a flawless round of five birdies. Earlier this month, the Querétaro, Mexico native fired off a career-low 66 at the Puerto Rico Classic and finished third.

Todd bounced back with a 3-under 69 after scoring over par in the first two rounds.

No. 17 TCU, the team champion, bested its 18-hole score record from the day before with a 15-under third round.
