No. 1 Oklahoma Up Next for Arkansas Gymnastics

The No. 13 Gymbacks will have their first-ever conference competition with Oklahoma this week, and it comes as the Sooners are ranked the top team in the nation.

Arkansas travels to Norman for an SEC dual with the Sooners on Friday night, the third conference outing for both teams this season. The Razorbacks are currently 1-1 in the league and Oklahoma is 2-0.

Arkansas’ series with Oklahoma is its most lopsided, with just one win in 25 tries dating back to 2005. The Gymbacks’ one victory over the Sooners did occur in Norman, on Jan. 26, 2009. Arkansas has not been to Norman for a regular season meet since 2020, and the Gymbacks are 1-15 all-time against Oklahoma in the regular season.

Oklahoma won back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023 and are on track for another big season. The Sooners are currently in the top three on all events and the best in the country on bars (49.481), floor (49.431), and all-around (197.706).

The Hogs are coming off a huge win over then-No. 2 LSU last Friday, the biggest upset in Jordyn Wieber’s tenure and the biggest for the program since taking down No. 1 Florida in 2011. The Gymbacks scored 196.875 as a team, set a new season high on bars (49.250) and hit a mark of 49.525 on floor for the second consecutive meet.

Friday’s meet will be broadcast live on ESPN2, Arkansas’ second appearance on the network this season. Bart Conner and Kennedy Baker will be on the call and first vault is set for 8 p.m. from Norman.
