No. 18 Arkansas Women’s Golf To Tee Off Season at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, SC. – No. 18 Arkansas Women’s Golf is set to start its season tomorrow, as they will head to South Carolina to play in the Cougar Classic. The Razorbacks, one of 18 teams participating on the 6,301 Yeamans Hall Club Course, have had a lot of success at the Cougar Classic over the years, including a third-place finish at last season’s event. They last won the tournament back in the fall of 2015.

Redshirt sophomore Brooke Matthews will lead the charge, as she holds down the first slot in Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s inaugural 2019-20 lineup. Matthews had a stellar debut season a year ago, going on to be named one of nine golfers on the SEC’s All-Freshmen Team. The Rogers, Arkansas, product made her collegiate debut at the Cougar Classic a season ago, and had a solid showing, placing 20th out of 102 participants after carding a tournament total of three-under-par.

The only other returner making the trip to South Carolina is Grace St-Germain, the lone senior on Taylor’s 2019-20 roster. St-Germain played in three events last season, but the Cougar Classic was not one of them. The Canadian product averaged 74.67 strokes-per-round last season. St-Germain will start the event from the fourth slot in Taylor’s lineup.

The other three spots in the lineup for Coach Taylor will all be filled by true freshmen, as Ela Anacona, Kajal Mistry and Julia Gregg will all travel to Hanahan to make their collegiate debuts together. Anacona, the top ranked Argentinean amateur over the last three years, will hold down the second spot in the lineup; Mistry, who has spent the past few years representing her native South Africa in events across the world, will hold down the third spot; Gregg, a runner up at both the Texas Women’s Amateur and the Nike Junior Invitational, will play from the fifth spot.
