No. 7 Arkansas Stays Perfect in SEC Play
COLUMBIA, Mo. – An early penalty kick converted by Ava Tankersley was enough for No. 7 Arkansas to shut out Missouri (5-4-1, 1-3-0 SEC), 1-0. The Hogs (8-2-1, 4-0-0 SEC) extended their win streak to five matches and have now won their first four league matches for the third time in the last four seasons.
Freshman goalkeeper Phoebe Carver made her third start and has shut out each of Arkansas’ last three opponents.
First Half
The Razorbacks took two shots and two corners before a handball in the penalty box by Missouri defender Mia Yang set Arkansas up for its third penalty attempt of the season.
Tankersley’s right-footed strike rolled across the ground and into the lower left corner of the net past Tigers goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach. The 13th-minute goal was the Missouri native’s second of the season.
Hollenbach made six first-half saves to hold Arkansas to just one goal.
Second Half
Missouri opened the second half with three corner kicks within the first 15 minutes. Arkansas and Missouri traded shots for the remainder of the contest but neither team crossed the goal line.
For the match, the Hogs led in shots, 13-7, shots on goal, 9-2, and corner kicks, 8-4.
