No. 8 Razorbacks Leaders After Monday at Blessings Collegiate

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 8 Arkansas women’s golf sits atop the Blessings Collegiate Invitational’s 10-team leaderboard after 18 holes on Monday at Blessings Golf Club.

The Razorbacks shot a 2-over par 290 in the opening round on their home course, led by junior Maria José Marin (-2, 2nd). All four of Arkansas’ counting scores finished in the top 15.

The Hogs, along with the rest of the field, got off to a slow start with just one birdie through the first five holes. José Marin and sophomore Clarisa Temelo (-1, 3rd) each birdied the par-4 sixth hole and from that point on, birdies were scored on eight of the last 12 holes.

Arkansas finished strong and shot 5-under in the final four holes, with José Marin birdieing 15, 17 and 18. Temelo picked up a pair of birdies on 15 and 17 to finish 1-under in the opening round.

Junior Abbey Schutte (E, 4th) finished the day with an even 72 with a pair of bogeys and a paur of birdies.

Overall, the Razorbacks hold a 7-shot lead over Mississippi State (+9). The Bulldogs’ Avery Weed shot a 7-under 65 and holds a 5-shot lead over José Marin.

On the individual side, Swetha Sathish (+6, T26) and Sayers Allen (+7, T38) made their collegiate golf debuts and sophomore Anna Kate Nichols shot a 9-over 81.

Arkansas’s second-round tee time is set for 9:15 a.m. off No. 10 at Blessings. The individuals will tee off at 7:45 am from No. 10.
