No. 9 Arkansas Fifth, Mistry Tied For The Lead at MountainView
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 9 Arkansas Women’s Golf held steady on Saturday at the MountainView Collegiate, as Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s Hogs remained in fifth after 36 holes of play. Arkansas is 10-under as a team, trailing San Jose State (-24), who leads the event, by 14 strokes.
Kajal Mistry kept up her excellent play in the desert, firing a 67 on day two of the event, rocketing her all the way to the top the leaderboard. Mistry played arguably the best 18 holes of her collegiate career on Saturday afternoon, tallying five birdies and no bogeys on her way to a five-under round. That 67 was the best round of her season so far, and matched the best single-round score of her career. Mistry is joined atop the leaderboard by Han-Hsuan Yu of Oklahoma State and Natasha Oon of San Jose State. It would mark her first individual medal in the collegiate game if she were to stay atop the leaderboard.
Fellow junior Ela Anacona joins Mistry in the top-15 after 36 holes. Anacona was great in the second round as well, firing a three-under 69, her best round of the 2021-22 season thus far. Anacona had the highlight of the day for the Hogs, as she eagled the par-five third hole.
Both Julia Gregg and Cory Lopez are tied for 40th headed into the final round in Tucson. Gregg finished the second 18 holes even, firing three birdies and three bogeys in the round. Lopez also carded a 72 on Saturday, playing four birdies, two bogeys and a double on 13.
Miriam Ayora is currently tied for 71st, carding a four-over 76 on day two.
