Player of the Week

Outfielder Jared Wegner began his Razorback career with a bang, slashing .545/.643/1.365 (6-for-11) with four extra-base hits, including two home runs, and eight RBI over three games in the College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field. The graduate transfer had at least one hit, reached base at least twice and scored at least one run in all three games, leading the Hogs to a pair of wins in Arlington. In Friday’s season-opening win against Texas, Wegner went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. He followed up that performance with a 3-for-4 night against TCU on Saturday, recording a double, a home run and three RBI against the Horned Frogs. His finish to the weekend was even louder, as Wegner went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a triple, a home run and a weekend-high five RBI in Arkansas’ run-rule win over Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Pitcher Hagen Smith was dominant in Friday’s season opener against Texas. The left-hander from Bullard, Texas, twirled five shutout innings with eight strikeouts, allowing just one hit and two walks. He limited the Longhorn hitters to a minuscule .071 batting average in his first outing of the 2023 season.
Freshman of the Week

Making his collegiate debut as a pinch hitter against No. 15 TCU on Saturday, true freshman infielder Jayson Jones collected his first career hit in his second career at-bat, launching a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. The Savannah, Texas, native earned his first career start at third base against No. 9 Oklahoma State in the College Baseball Showdown finale on Sunday, drawing three walks and scoring two runs in the Hogs’ run-rule win.
Razorback Notes
- Arkansas improved to 5-1 all-time at Globe Life Field. The Hogs went a perfect 3-0 at the 2021 College Baseball Showdown and finished with a 2-1 record at this year’s event in Arlington, Texas.
- 20,295 fans were in attendance for Saturday night’s game between No. 9 Arkansas and No. 15 TCU, making it the highest-attended college baseball game in the history of Globe Life Field.
