Wehiwa Aloy slashed a team-leading .571/.667/1.071 with two home runs and five RBI over four games, helping the Razorbacks complete an Opening Weekend series sweep against Washington State before winning two games, including a pair ranked wins over TCU and Michigan, in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Aloy recorded three multi-hit games and two-multi RBI performances during the week, including a career high-tying four-hit effort in the win against the Wolverines. Aloy began his week with a two-hit, two-RBI game in the series finale against Washington State (Feb. 17), also drawing a pair of walks in the contest. The Razorback shortstop swatted his first home run of the week in the Globe Life Field tournament opener against Kansas State (Feb. 21), finishing with two hits and an RBI. Aloy was a triple away from the cycle against Michigan (Feb. 23) in the weekend’s finale, finishing the game 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI to go along with two singles, a double and a solo home run.

Arkansas LHP Zach Root

Stats (1 APP/1 GS): 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 SO

Zach Root turned in five strong innings with a career high-tying 10 strikeouts against top 25 ranked TCU (Feb. 22) in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The left-hander allowed just one run on two hits and a pair of walks against the nationally ranked Horned Frogs, helping the Razorbacks earn a 2-1 win in front of an announced crowd of 17,994 – the largest this season for a college baseball game, and the second-largest crowd for a college baseball game in the history of Globe Life Field.

Razorback Notes

  • Arkansas finished its weekend at Globe Life Field with a 2-1 record, its fourth winning record in as many trips to the home of the Texas Rangers.
  • Wehiwa Aloy and his younger brother, Kuhio, each hit a home run in the same inning against Kansas State (Feb. 21) in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series opener, pulling off a rare feat that, according to Elias Sports Bureau, has only been accomplished by seven pairs of brothers in the MLB since 1900.
  • According to Elias Sports Bureau, just seven pairs of brothers since 1900 have each hit a home run in the same inning at the MLB level.   • Saturday’s announced attendance of 17,994 for the game between Arkansas-TCU marked the second-largest crowd for a college baseball game in Globe Life Field history behind a crowd of 20,295 on Feb. 18, 2023, set during the Arkansas-TCU game in the Higginbotham College Baseball Showdown.
  • Saturday’s attendance of 17,994 also represented the largest crowd for a college baseball game so far this season.
  • Sunday’s win against Michigan moved Arkansas’ overall record to 6-1 through the first seven games of the year, its best seven-game start to a season since 2021 when the Hogs began 7-0.
