Rush Tabbed to Ray Guy Award’s “Ray’s 8” Week 1 List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas sophomore punter Gavin Rush has been named to the Ray Guy Award’s “Ray’s 8” after his performance in last Saturday’s season-opening win over North Alabama, the Greater Augusta Sports Council announced Tuesday afternoon.

Rush made the most of his first collegiate punting action by punting three times for a total of 144 yards to average 48.0 yards per punt in last week’s win. The Franklin, Tenn., product pinned North Alabama inside its own 20-yard line twice courtesy of a 51-yard punt in the second quarter that was fair caught at the 5-yard line and a 46-yard boot that resulted in North Alabama starting its offensive drive at its own 14-yard line in the first quarter.

Punters listed on “Ray’s 8” weekly list are eligible to be chosen as the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week. Ray’s 8 and Punter of the Week are determined by the Ray Guy Award Committee.

After beginning the Ryan Silverfield era with a win against North Alabama on Sept. 5 in the season opener at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, the Hogs are set to embark on their first road trip of the campaign. Arkansas and top 25 ranked Utah square off for the first time in history at 9:15 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 12, on ESPN from inside Rice–Eccles Stadium. Single-game tickets are on sale now.
