Arkansas recently was ranked No. 6 in the Perfect Game preseason poll and No. 3 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. It returns a potent lineup that includes six of its top eight hitters last year, along with a bevy of pitchers to give head coach Dave Van Horn one of his deepest teams in years.
All-SEC shortstop Jax Biggers led the team with a .338 average in 2017 and is back to shore up the left side of the infield. Freshman All-American Dominic Fletcher captains the outfield in 2018 after leading all SEC freshmen with 12 home runs, while hitting .291 with 37 RBIs.
Seniors Luke Bonfield and Carson Shaddy also return to the Hogs, giving Arkansas a veteran presence up and down the lineup. Both Bonfield and Shaddy combined for 17 home runs and 89 RBIs.
On the mound, preseason All-American Blaine Knight heads up the rotation along with redshirt sophomore Isaiah Campbell and juniors Kacey Murphy and Jake Reindl. Knight led the entire Arkansas pitching staff with eight wins a year ago, complemented by a 4.80 strikeout-to-walk ratio, fifth best in the conference.
Entering his second year as the Arkansas pitching coach, Wes Johnson hopes to continue seeing the pitching success the Razorbacks had last year, which combined for a 3.61 team ERA and a school-record 619 strikeouts.
Arkansas is scheduled to open the 2018 season against Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 16 with first pitch at 3 p.m. at Baum Stadium. All tickets are now on sale through the Razorback Ticket Office.
