Smith, Tygart Secure Spots on Perfect Game Freshman All-America Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas pitchers Hagen Smith and Brady Tygart have been named Freshman All-Americans by Perfect Game.

It is the sixth consecutive season the Razorbacks have had at least one freshman earn All-America honors.

Smith has made 19 appearances with 14 starts on the mound this season, logging a 6-2 record with a 4.85 ERA and two saves in 72.1 innings. The left-hander has struck out 82 while limiting opposing hitters to a .240 batting average. Smith’s six wins are tied with Jaxon Wiggins and Zack Morris for second most on the team.

Smith, who was also named to the Freshman All-SEC Team earlier this season, now has two Freshman All-America honors to his name. He was named to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Freshman All-America Team before collecting second-team praise from Perfect Game.

Tygart, meanwhile, has been one of Arkansas’ most dependable arms this season, emerging as the Hogs’ primary closer. The right-hander has a 3.82 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings of work with a team-leading eight saves on the year.

The Hernando, Miss., native was dominant in SEC play during the regular season, logging a 1.91 ERA and seven saves while fanning 40 and holding opposing hitters to a miniscule .160 batting average in 28 1/2 innings. Tygart, like Smith, landed on the Freshman All-SEC Team.

Tygart has now earned Freshman All-America accolades from three outlets — Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association and Perfect Game. He received first-team praise from both the NCBWA and Perfect Game.
