Kandice Thompson currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director for Human Resources and Business Operations for the Razorback Athletics Department, after becoming part of the Business Office staff in March 2013. Thompson currently has oversight of human resources, camp operations and travel. Before joining the Razorback staff, Thompson served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Edwardsville, IL.
In her previous role, Thompson oversaw all aspects of Division I Home Athletic Events. She was directly responsible for usage, maintenance, scheduling and rental of all Athletics venues and facilities and served as the Human Resource Manager for the entire department, overseeing the hiring, training and managing of a team of more than 60 employees (full time, graduate assistants, interns, civil service and student employees. She was also the sports program administrator for SIUE’s Track & Field and Cross Country programs.
Thompson has a wide variety of athletic experience, having been the head women’s track and field coach at the University of Dayton from 2005-2007. In two years at Dayton, Thompson helped oversee dramatic improvements in the track and field program. Under her reign, 20 track and field school records were broken during the indoor and outdoor seasons. In addition, nine Flyers earned Atlantic 10 Conference honors. In 2007, the team earned All-American honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA) for having a cumulative team grade point average better than 3.00.
Prior to Dayton, Thompson led the track and field and cross country teams at Texas Lutheran University to unprecedented success beginning with her arrival in 2001. In her first year at TLU, Thompson guided the D-III school’s cross country team to a third-place finish in the 2001 American Southwest Conference (ASC) Championships and the track team to second-place in the 2002 ASC Championships. Overall, Thompson guided Texas Lutheran Cross Country to three conference titles and was named the ASC Coach of the Year three times. She also led Texas Lutheran Track and Field to two runner-up finishes and one conference title, as well as being named ASC Coach of the Year multiple times. In 2005, she was named South Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
As a student-athlete at Angelo State, Thompson was an athletic and academic scholarship recipient. She lettered four years and was a four-time qualifier to the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships in the relays, 400m and high jump. She earned All-American honors in all four years as a member of ASU’s 400 and 1600 relays. She was named to the 1999 Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was selected to the 1998 Academic All- Conference team. She was an honorable mention Academic All-Conference selection in 1997.
Thompson earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology from Angelo State in 1999. She completed her master of science in kinesiology (also at Angelo State) with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A native of Zephyr, Texas, she graduated from Zephyr High School, where she was a four-sport athlete, multiple state champion, and class valedictorian.
Thompson and her husband, Kelly, are the proud parents of one son, Kason.
