Teeing It Up In Georgia
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The regular season concludes this weekend when the No. 16 University of Arkansas women’s golf team takes on a challenging field at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia.
The three-day event will be contested Friday-Sunday at the UGA Golf Course and features a unique format. The 12-team field plays one round of stroke play followed by three rounds of tournament-style match play. The format is similar to that of the national championship.
Arkansas’ lineup is starting to take shape for the postseason run. Sophomore Cara Gorlei will tee it up in the No. 1 spot after leading the Razorbacks with a third place finish at LSU two weeks ago. Gorlei has been Arkansas’ top finisher twice this year and has a73.90 stroke average in her second season.
Sophomore All-American Maria Fassi is in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Fassi has a win this year at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and is second on the team with a 72.67 stroke average.
Junior Alana Uriell leads Arkansas with a 71.76 stroke average and also has a victory under her belt this season. Sophomore Kaylee Benton (73.81) and senior Summar Roachell (76.56) round out the lineup this week.
Another good field awaits Arkansas in Georgia. Second-ranked Southern California, No. 3 Alabama, No. 9 Georgia and No. 11 South Carolina are among the nation’s best teams this year. The rest of the field includes No. 19 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Purdue, No. 58 Old Dominion, No. 91 Troy and Dayton State.
