Wise Piling Up Sacks, Honored By SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The SEC leader with eight sacks in conference play this season, Arkansas junior Deatrich Wise Jr. has been named the SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Wise is the sixth different Razorback to be honored with a weekly award from the SEC this season after registering two sacks with a forced fumble during Arkansas’ 28-3 win over Missouri in the Battle Line Rivalry.

The two sacks extended his streak to four straight games with a sack and brought his total to seven over that span. Wise forced a fumble with his first sack against the Tigers, good for his team-leading third forced fumble of the season and second in as many games.

Wise’s eight sacks are tied for 10th-most in program history and have all come in SEC action. He is the only SEC player to register at least 1.5 sacks in three straight conference games this season and one of two players with multiple sacks in back-to-back league contests. Over the eight-game SEC season, Wise had a sack in five contests, while his eight sacks are the most since Jamaal Anderson had 10.5 in league play in 2006.

Arkansas finished the regular season with a 7-5 overall record and in a tie for third in the SEC West standings at 5-3. With wins in five of their last six games, the Razorbacks will learn their bowl destination on Sunday, Dec. 6.
