Women's Tennis Set to Host First Tournament of Fall Season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team continues its fall season this week with six Razorbacks competing in the PTT 25K Fayetteville. The tournament will take place from Oct. 20-26 at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The 20 person main draw will consist of 4 groups of 5 players each. The round-robin group stages will run from Sunday to Thursday. The Playoff Rounds will be single elimination and consist of five draws of 4 players depending on the player’s group finishing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) and will run from Friday to Saturday.

Katarina Pavlechova headlines Group A for Arkansas as she makes her third appearance this fall. Pavlechova is coming off a 2-3 performance in singles play at the ITA Regional Championships last week and has recorded four total singles wins this fall. Pavlechova is set to face Magdalena Bresson tomorrow at 12 p.m. in Round 1 of the group stage.

Katie Ferguson represents the Razorbacks in Group B and looks to continue her strong start to the fall after winning her final four singles matches in Memphis last week. Ferguson will take the court against Reya Lee Coe tomorrow following Pavlechova’s match in the first round of the group stage.

Group C features two Hogs as Olga Bienzobas and Grace O’Donnell also make their third appearances of the fall. At the ITA Regional Championships, Bienzobas posted a 1-2 singles record along with a run to the Round of 16 in doubles with Carolina Gomez Alonso while O’Donnell teamed up with Anet Koskel to reach the doubles semifinals in addition to a 1-1 singles record. Both Razorbacks are scheduled to play tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Round 1 of the group stage.

Koskel and Jimena Gomez Alonso will compete in Group D with both Razorbacks playing in their third event of the fall season. Koskel finished with a 4-1 singles record in Memphis while J. Gomez Alonso concluded the tournament with a 1-1 record in singles play. Koskel and J. Gomez Alonso are slated to take the courts following the 3 p.m. matches in the first round of the group stage.
