#14 Arkansas Runs Past Queens, 108-80

FAYETTEVILLE – Trevon Brazile made his first seven shots, including 4 3-pointers, in scoring a career-high 26 points while Darius Acuff Jr. had 23 points and 10 assists (with zero turnovers) to lead #14 Arkansas to a 108-80 victory over Queens on Tuesday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Brazile, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, finished by making a career-high five 3-pointers and was a career-best 9-of-11 from the field while adding three assists and three steals.

Acuff, the two-time reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, becomes the first Razorback to score at least 20 points (23) and have at least 10 assists (10) with zero turnovers. He added three steals as well.

Overall, Arkansas had six players score in double figures, including a season-high 15 points from Billy Richmond III, a season-high 14 points from Nick Pringle, 11 points from Karter Knox and 10 points from D.J. Wagner.

The Razorbacks used two big runs in the first half to open a sizable lead. Then, early in the second half, Richmond scored eight points in an 8-2 run (two free throws, a 3-pointer, a layup and a dunk) to put the Hogs up 33.

Arkansas had season highs in 3-pointers made with 14 (also tying the most by Arkansas in the Calipari era) and assists with 25 (second-most in the Calipari era). Defensively, Arkansas held Queens to six 3-pointers – half their season average – and just 24% shooting from deep (6-of-25).

Nasir Mann led Queens with 16 points while Maban Jabriel and Avantae Parker added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Arkansas returns to the road to face #8 Houston on Saturday (Dec. 20) in the Never Forget Tribute Classic, played in Newark, N.J. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm (ET)/4:30 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on CBS.

FIRST HALF: ARK: 60 – QUC: 36

  • Trevon Brazile scored 18 first-half points and Darius Acuff Jr. added 16.
  • Brazile started the game making his first seven shots from the field, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range.
    • Queens scored first but Arkansas used a 15-2 run with a 13-0 spurt to lead 18-9.
    • Through the first 8-plus minutes, Arkansas shot 79% from the field (11-of-14) and was 7-of-8 from 3-point range.
    • Arkansas later used a 14-2 runs, including a 10-0 spurt, to lead 43-22.
    • The 60 points by Arkansas was its most in the first half this season. The previous best was 57 versus Southern in the season opener.
    • Arkansas was 10-of-17 from deep in the first half with Queens was just 2-of-12.
    • Arkansas had 11 first-half steals and forced 14 turnovers.
    • Queens was led by Avantae Parker (4-of-4 FG) and Nasir Mann (5-of-6 FG), each with 10 points.

SECOND HALF: ARK: 48 – QUC: 44

  • Arkansas opened the second half on a 10-4 run, thanks to Billy Richmond’s eight points in the run, to push its 24-point halftime lead to 33.
    • Richmond scored 13 of 15 points in the second half.
    • Arkansas was out-rebounded 23-16 in the second half and lost the rebound battle overall, 34-33.
    • Acuff had seven of his 10 assists in the second half as Arkansas dished out 13 assists on 15 made baskets in the period.

  • Arkansas’ starting lineup was Darius Acuff Jr., D.J. Wagner, Karter Knox, Trevon Brazile and Nick Pringle.
  • Queens’ Jordan Watford scored the first points of the game with a jumper off the left block at 19:31. Karter Knox scored the first points for Arkansas, a 3-pointer at 18:05.
  • Arkansas’s first sub was Malique Ewin.
  • This was the first meeting between Arkansas and Queens.
  • Arkansas entered the game 3rd in the NCAA in fastbreak points (21.8) and had 32 versus the Royals.
  • Over the last four games, Darius Acuff Jr. is averaging 19.5 points and 9.0 assists while averaging just 1.75 turnovers.
  • Acuff is the only Razorback to score double figures in all 11 games. He passed Moses Moody for the best start to a Razorback rookie season by scoring double figures in 11 straight with Isaiah Joe holding the school record at 13.
  • Over the last four games, Trevon Brazile has scored 20-plus points three times and is shooting 66.7% (12-of-18) from 3-point range.
  • Karter Knox has scored in double figures in three straight, averaging 14 points while shooting 7-of-12 (58.3%) from 3-point.
  • Head Coach John Calipari earned career win 886 and is 14 shy of reaching 900 for his career.
