#20/19 Arkansas Early Onslaught Leads to 105-85 Victory over Texas

FAYETTEVILLE – In his last home game as a Razorback, senior Trevon Brazile had a career-high 28 points while Darius Acuff Jr. became the only high-major player in the NCAA to have 28 points and 13 assists in a game this season to lead #20/19 Arkansas to a 105-85 victory Wednesday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Brazile made his first six shots of the night, including three 3-pointers, and finished going 9-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point, and 7-of-8 at the line in scoring his career high. He added seven rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.

Acuff was 4-of-6 from deep and 8-of-10 at the line as he recorded his 20th, 20-point game of the season while tying his career-high with 13 assists for his fifth double-double of the season, which is a school record for most point/assist double-doubles in a season. He is the first Razorback (on record) to have at least 24 points and 10 assists.

Arkansas opened the game on a 19-4 run as Texas did not score its sixth point until the 13:34 mark. The Hogs led by 22 at halftime and held at least a 15-point lead the entire second half.

D.J. Wagner added 13 points, his best point production since scoring 14 versus James Madison on Dec. 29, while Meleek Thomas had 13 points. Billy Richmond III had his 20-point scoring streak snapped at six games, finishing with eight, but he had a career-high nine rebounds while tying his career-highs in blocked shots (3) and steals (3).

Matas Vokietaitis led Texas with 21 points and seven rebounds and Dailyn Swain added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Arkansas closes the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Missouri. Tipoff is CoMo is set for 11 am (CT) and the game will be televised on ESPN.

FIRST HALF: ARK: 56 – TEXAS: 34

  • Texas scored first but the Hogs answered with a 6-0 run. Then, after a basket, Arkansas went on a 13-0 run to lead 19-4. Texas did not score its sixth point until the 13:34 mark.
  • Trevon Brazile was perfect from the field, making all 6 field goals and all three 3-pointers. He had 17 points and added three blocked shots.
  • Billy Richmond III also had three blocked shots, which tied his career high.
  • Darius Acuff Jr. nearly had a double-double in the first half with 19 points and eight assists with just one turnover.
  • Arkansas shot 57% from the field and 75% from 3-point while holding Texas to 38.2% shooting and 0-of-3 from 3-point.
  • Texas was led by Matas Vokietaitis, who had 14 points.

SECOND HALF: ARK: 49 – TEXAS: 51

  • D.J. Wagner scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
  • Texas shot 60% from the field (20-of-33) and 50% from 3-point (5-of-10) but could not make up ground on the Hogs, which shot 59.3% from the field and 45.5% (5-of-11) from 3-point.
  • Arkansas out-rebounded Texas, 16-12, in the second half

  • Darius Acuff Jr., already the school’s freshman leader in scoring, is 26 assists shy of Kareem Reid’s freshman record of 219 in 1995-96.
  • Darius Acuff Jr. entered the UA single-season top 10 in points and assists. He has 666 points (which ranks 8th) and 193 assists (6th).
  • In SEC games only, he has 422 points, which is two points shy of the school record of 424 set by Mason Jones (2020). Also, in SEC games only, set the school record. He has 113 assists to date, breaking the mark of 107 set by Kareem Reid in 1996.
