Acuff on College Hoops Today Midseason All-American Team
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. was tabbed third team Midseason All-American by College Hoops Today with Jon Rothstein.
For the season, Acuff is averaging 18.9 points and 6.2 assists while shooting 48.8% from the field and 43.8% from 3-point range. More impressively, Acuff’s numbers improve to 20.2 points and 7.2 assists in the five games versus top 25 opponents.
Acuff ranks second among NCAA freshmen – and 20th in the NCAA overall – in assists per game and ranks fifth among NCAA freshmen in points per game. He additionally ranks fourth among NCAA freshmen – 49th in the NCAA overall – in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.08). Among NCAA freshmen to make at least 25 3-pointers, Acuff ranks sixth at 48.3%, and, among that group, he is just 1 of 5 freshmen to shoot at least 45% from the field and 43% from 3-point.
Other freshmen to make the midseason All-American team include first team picks Cameron Boozer (Duke) and AJ Dybantsa (BYU), as well as second teamer Caleb Wilson (North Carolina).
He is coming off a 27-point, 7-assist game versus #8 Houston. The 27 points are the most by a Razorback this season, his third-straight 20-point game and his seventh 20-point game of the season. In fact, Acuff is the only Razorback to score in double figures in all 12 games. He additionally has dished out seven-plus assists in five straight games and handed out at least five in 9 of the Hogs’ 12 games.
Acuff has already earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice this season, and he earned the following preseason honors:
