Acuff Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. averaged 17.5 points, nine assists and five rebounds in wins over #6 Louisville and Fresno State to be named the SEC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league announced today.
In the win over #6 Louisville:
- He recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 assists while adding five rebounds.
- He scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half. Specifically, with Arkansas leading by seven (74-67) with 5:45 left, Acuff finished the game scoring 9 of the Hogs’ final 15 points (3-5 FG, 3-3 FT) with an assist and a rebound.
- In the first half, he had six of his 10 assists as Arkansas led 47-29 at the break. (Entering the game, his career-high for assists was six.)
- He is the only Razorback freshman since 1992-93 to get 10 assists versus an AP top 25 team. Overall, he is just the third Razorback, regardless of class, to have 10 assists versus an AP top 25.
In the win over Fresno State:
- Acuff had a game-high 18 points and eight assists with just one turnover and five rebounds.
- Arkansas led by just 10 at halftime, but Acuff spurred a second-half surge. He scored 11 second-half points (4-of-6 FG • 3-of-5 3PT) with five assists. During a 22-6 run to start the second half, Acuff scored 8 of his 11 second-half points (3-3 FG • 2-2 3PT) with an assist and a steal.
Acuff and the #17 Razorbacks return to action this Saturday (Dec. 13) versus #16 Texas Tech in the Revocruit Rematch, played in Dallas’ American Airlines Center. Tipoff is set for 11 am (CT) and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
