Acuff Triples Up on SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE – For the third straight week, Razorback guard Darius Acuff Jr. has been named the SEC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league announced today.

For the week, Acuff averaged 25 points, 8.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a win over Queens and a loss to #8 Houston. For the week, he had 17 assists, versus 4 turnovers, and was 5-of-9 (55.5%) from 3-point range.

Versus Queens, Acuff scored a then career-high 23 while tying his career-high with 10 assists for his second double-double of the season. He had zero turnovers, was 4-of-6 from 3-point range and added a career-high three steals in the win.

On Saturday, Acuff scored a career-high 27 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds against #8 Houston. Acuff tied a career high with nine field goals made and had a career high in FT made (8) and FT attempted (11). He also dished out seven assists – his sixth-straight game with at least 5 assists (averaging 8.0 over the six-game span).

Acuff is the only Razorback to score in double figures in all 12 games this season. He is looks to join Isaiah Joe as having the best start to an Arkansas freshman career. Joe scored in double figures in each of his first 13 games as a Razorback.

Acuff will get his chance to match Joe on Dec. 29 (Monday) when Arkansas hosts James Madison. Tipoff at Bud Walton Arena is set for 7 pm and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
