
Aloy Named SEC Player of the Year; Five Razorbacks Earn All-SEC Honors
HOOVER, Ala. – Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy has been named the 2025 SEC Baseball Player of the Year.
Aloy, who is only the second Razorback in program history to accomplish the feat and the first since Andrew Benintendi in 2015, was also one of five Razorbacks to earn All-SEC recognition from the conference’s 16 head coaches, as Arkansas placed a league-leading four players on the All-SEC First Team, including Wehiwa Aloy, Kuhio Aloy, Charles Davalan and Zach Root. Cam Kozeal, meanwhile, earned second-team All-SEC praise to round out the group of Razorback honorees.
Arkansas’ four first-team All-SEC selections are its most in program history. It is also the third consecutive season that an Arkansas starting pitcher has earned first-team All-SEC praise, the longest such streak by a team since LSU from 2012-15.
Wehiwa Aloy, whose first name means “The Prized One,” has been one of college baseball’s most electrifying all-around players this season. In 55 games, the Wailuku, Hawaii, native, is slashing a team-leading .358/.440/.677 with 18 homers, tied for ninth-most in a season by a Razorback, and 58 RBI while pacing the SEC in runs scored (72) and base hits (82).
The junior, who has started every game at shortstop, is on his way to producing of the best offensive seasons in program history, leading the Razorbacks in nearly every major category: batting average (.358), slugging percentage (.677), on-base plus slugging (1.117), runs scored (72), base hits (82), doubles (17), home runs (18) and extra-base hits (36).
Named a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist as well as a two-time SEC Player of the Week this season, Aloy has also dazzled defensively with just four errors in 192 total chances, good for a .979 fielding percentage on the year.
Kuhio Aloy, Wehiwa’s younger brother, picked up first-team All-SEC recognition as designated hitter. The sophomore, who is in his first season at Arkansas after transferring from BYU, is slashing .345/.429/.607 with 13 home runs and a team-leading 68 RBI, three shy of cracking the program’s single-season top 10 list, through 51 games this year.
Davalan garnered first-team All-SEC praise as an outfielder. The sophomore from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, who is tied with Wehiwa Aloy for the team lead in base hits (82), emerged as one of college baseball’s best leadoff batters in his first season at Arkansas after transferring from FGCU, slashing .353/.433/.578 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 55 games.
Root, who secured first-team All-SEC honors at starting pitcher, has stepped up as Arkansas’ ace on the mound after transferring from ECU, posting a 6-4 record with a 4.14 ERA and a team-leading 102 strikeouts in 75.2 innings of work. The junior left-hander, twice named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, has carded a team-high five quality starts on the year.
Kozeal, meanwhile, landed second-team All-SEC praise at first base. The sophomore from Omaha, Neb., who began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt, is slashing .335/.382/.598 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI, including an SEC-leading 41 runs batted in against conference opponents, through 50 games this season, his first as a Razorback.
