Aloy Named Semifinalist for Golden Spikes Award

CARY, N.C. – Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Golden Spikes Award.

The Golden Spikes Award, considered the most prestigious among college baseball’s national player of the year honors, recognizes the top amateur baseball player in the United States based on their athletic ability, sportsmanship, character and overall contribution to the sport. Aloy is one of 25 semifinalists for this year’s Golden Spikes Award.

Aloy, whose first name means “The Prized One,” has been one of college baseball’s most electrifying all-around players in 2025. Through 55 games this season, the Wailuku, Hawaii, native, is slashing a team-leading .358/.440/.677 with 18 home runs, tied for fifth most among SEC hitters, and 58 RBI while leading the SEC in runs scored (72) and base hits (82).

The junior, who has started every game at shortstop, is well on his way to turning in one of the best offensive seasons in program history, leading the Hogs in nearly every major category including batting average (.358), slugging percentage (.677), on-base plus slugging (1.117), runs scored (72), base hits (82), doubles (17), home runs (18) and extra-base hits (36). Aloy’s team-leading 18 home runs are tied for ninth-most in a single season by a Razorback.

A two-time SEC Player of the Week and Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List honoree this season, Aloy has also dazzled defensively with just four errors in 192 total chances, good for a .979 fielding percentage.

Aloy is the first Razorback position player to be named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award since outfielder Andrew Benintendi in 2015. Arkansas has had two Golden Spikes Award winners in program history – Benintendi (2015) and pitcher Kevin Kopps (2021) – and is one of only six schools, along with Florida State (4), Arizona State (3), Cal State Fullerton (3), LSU (2) and San Diego State (2), with multiple Golden Spikes Award winners in its program history.
