Arkansas advances 13 entries to NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION – Arkansas battled through the final day of the NCAA West First Round and produced a total of 13 entries in seven events for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, which will be held June 11-14 at Hayward Field.

A total of 13 Razorbacks advanced to Eugene, including five in the 400m.

Arkansas closed out the meet with a facility record in the 4 x 400m relay, producing a time of 3:25.48 that bettered the 3:25.84 set by Texas A&M in 2021. It also equals the No. 10 time on the UA all-time list.

Running on the relay were Kaylyn Brown (51.27), Kayla Davis (51.54), Amirah Sharpe (51.42), and Rosey Effiong (51.15). Arkansas’ lead over the field was more than a full second with Iowa (3:26.90), Texas A&M (3:27.67), UCLA (3:28.18), and USC (3:29.42) following.

Brown also led the field in the 400m with a 50.58 performance. Effiong followed in 51.07, which was third best overall. Also advancing for the Razorbacks were Aaliyah Pyatt (51.36), Joanne Reid (51.65), and Sanaria Butler (52.00).

Davis was 13th overall in 52.43, just missing being in the top 12, while Sharpe was 19th overall in 52.86.

Paityn Noe won her section of the 5,000m in 15:43.45 and led the field advancing to Eugene while Sydney Thorvaldson landed in 13th overall with a 16:03.49. The time by Noe bettered the facility record of 15:45.32 set in 2021 by Alabama’s Mercy Chelangat.

Sanu Jallow-Lockhart was the final qualifier in the 800m with a time of 2:03.16. Ainsley Erzen ran 2:10.05, which was 23rd overall.

Razorback roommates Simone Ballard and Shania Myers both advanced on time in the 100m hurdles as they raced in separate heats. Ballard equaled her career best of 13.14 to place 10th overall while Myers set a career best of 13.15, which ranked 12th overall.

Mackenzie Rogers finished fifth in the opening heat of the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:14.00 and finished 18th overall.

In the 4 x 100m relay, the Razorbacks were leading the field at the final exchange. Shawnti Jackson pulled up halfway down the homestretch and was unable to finish. The first three legs of the relay include Anya Jackson, Effiong, and Brown. TCU won the first section in 43.13 and were fifth overall.
