Arkansas delivers stellar marks in Razorback Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE – Sanu Jallow-Lockhart won the 800m in 2 minutes, 1.55 seconds as Arkansas produced stellar marks on the second day of the Razorback Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center.
A close finish had Jallow-Lockhart edging out a pair of Miami runners in Natalie Varela (2:01.82) and Gabreilla Grissom (2:01.87) with Kaylie Politza of Oklahoma State (2:02.80) placing fourth. The time by Jallow-Lockhart currently ranks second among collegians this season.
Jallow-Lockhart also supplied a second leg split of 51.85 in the 4 x 400m relay as Arkansas finished second in 3:27.73, which ranks No. 10 on the UA all-time list. Sanaria Butler split 52.15 on the first leg while Saira Prince had a third leg carry of 52.88. Analisse Batista anchored the relay in 50.85.
Georgia, who entered the meet with a world-leading time of 3:28.16, won the race in 3:27.65 while South Carolina finished third in 3:27.75.
Sydney Vaught delivered a career best of 8:55.19 to place fifth in the 3,000m and moved to No. 4 on the UA all-time list. Oklahoma State’s tandem of Billah Jepkirui (8:45.22) and Isca Chelangat (8:48.74) finished 1-2 in the race. Arkansas alum Taylor Werner placed third in 8:49.60 with professional Courtney Frerichs fourth in 8:49.87.
Earlier in the meet, Butler generated a career best of 51.52 in the 400m behind a world-leading effort of 51.11 by Georgia’s Dejanea Oakley. Batista also ran a PR of 52.44 behind Georgia’s Shaquena Foote (51.55) in another section. Foote placed third overall with Batista seventh.
Arkansas alum Destiny Huven won the 60m hurdles in a career best of 7.96 over Kentucky’s Emmi Scales, who ran 8.01 in the final after delivering a collegiate-leading 7.96 in the prelim. Huven registered a then PR of 7.98 in the semifinal.
Razorback Shania Myers finished fifth in the 60m hurdles final with an 8.13. In the semifinal, Myers set a career best of 8.12, which ranks her No. 10 on the UA all-time list.
Madeleine Gear won a section of the mile in a career best of 4:46.26 over Michigan’s duo of Samantha Hastie (4:46.88) and Hannah Pricco (4:47.70). Gear placed 12th overall.
Oregon’s Silan Ayyildiz won the mile in a meet record of 4:25.11 to break the 4:26.00 set last year by Arkansas alum Krissy Gear.
