Baseball Drops Series Opener at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Arkansas baseball team (22-17, 7-9) tried to rally from an early deficit Saturday afternoon but came up short, falling 13-6 at No. 1 Texas A&M (35-3, 12-3) in the series opener at Blue Bell Park.

Arkansas and Texas A&M will turn right around this evening and play game two of the series at 7:35 p.m. Dominic Taccolini will get the ball in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

After Texas A&M jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the fifth inning, Arkansas showed plenty of fight in the sixth inning as eight straight Razorbacks reached base and Michael Bernal capped off a six-run inning with a monster grand slam to left field to make it 11-6.

Tyler Spoon provided the first RBI of the frame with a sharp single to left field and Luke Bonfield followed two batters later with a bases loaded single up the middle to setup the grand slam by Bernal.

The Aggies jumped out to a first-inning lead when Logan Taylor connected with a three-run homer to put the Razorbacks in an early hole. Texas A&M would add two more runs in the third inning, a six spot in the fifth inning and one in the seventh and eighth frames.

Serrano finished the day with two hits, a run scored and reached base three times, while Bernal tallied his third home run of the year in the loss.

Game two of the doubleheader will start at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
