
Boogie Fland Named Kyle Macy Award Finalist; Freshman All-America
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas guard Boogie Fland was named 1 of 25 finalists for the 2025 Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the nation’s top freshman, and tabbed Division I Collegiate Basketball Freshman All-America, CollegeInsider.com announced today.
Fland becomes Arkansas’ 10th Freshman All-America, joining Patrick Beverley (2007), Anthony Black (2023), Ronnie Brewer (2004), Courtney Fortson (2009), Joe Johnson (2000), Moses Moody (2021), Marshawn Powell (2010), Scotty Thurman (1993) and Corliss Williamson (1993).
Fland, who missed 15 games after having thumb surgery on Jan. 22, finished second on the team by averaging 13.5 ppg and second in total assists with 108 – just 23 behind D.J. Wagner who started all 36 games. He averaged a team-best 5.14 assists per game and only committed 29 turnovers in 21 games played. Among Razorback freshmen all-time, Fland ranked:
- 1st in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.71) – which ranks third-best in Razorback history overall.
- 3rd in assists per game (5.14).
- 10th in steals per game (1.52).
- 11th in scoring (13.5 ppg).
After missing those 15 games, Fland returned to the floor for the Razorbacks’ run to the Sweet 16. Versus Kansas, he had three assists (zero turnovers) and three steals with six points, including a layup in the final seconds of the first half to give the Hogs a 47-44 lead at halftime. In the win over St. John’s, he hit a 3-pointer and converted an old-fashioned 3-point play while adding two assists with zero turnovers.
Fland started the first 18 games of the season for the Razorbacks and was leading the SEC in minutes played per game (34:07). Prior to the surgery (as of Jan. 20), Fland:
- was second on the team in scoring (15.1).
- led all NCAA freshmen in assist-turnover ratio (3.68).
- ranked eighth overall in the NCAA and first in the SEC in assist-turnover ratio.
- led all NCAA freshmen in assists per game (5.72)
- ranked 29th overall in the NCAA in assists per game.
- tallied 103 total assists with just 28 turnovers.
- was shooting 36.5% from 3-point range and 83.9% from the free throw line.
- led the team in scoring six times (second-best on the team) and led the team in assists in 16 of his 18 games.
Other highlights from his freshman season include:
- Leading the team to a win at Miami with 18 points and six assists.
- Being named SEC Freshman of the Week after leading Arkansas to a win over Michigan in his native New York City’s Madison Square Garden with 20 points and seven assists,
- Recording a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists versus North Carolina A&T.
- Scoring a season-high 24 versus Oakland with six assists.
- Getting 19 points at LSU despite playing with his injured thumb.
