Career best pentathlon for Edwards at NCAA Indoor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –G’Auna Edwards produced a career best score of 4,148 points in the pentathlon as the lone Razorback competing for the women’s team on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships inside Randal Tyson Track Center.

Edwards finished eighth in the pentathlon, scoring a team point for Arkansas and earning an All-America honor.

More Razorbacks join the fray on Friday with qualifying prelim races along with finals in the 5,000m, distance medley relay, pole vault and long jump. The long jump provides Edwards with another opportunity to score team points.

A solid production of marks had Edwards in fourth place through four events with a score of 3,446 points. Edwards ran the 800m in 2:29.24 to add 702 points, which enabled her to break a previous best of 4,068 points set during the SEC Championships.

Edwards opened with an 8.38 in the 60m hurdles (1,044 points), cleared 5-7 ¾ (879) in the high jump, and added a 34-0 ¾ (554) shot put. A strong performance in the long jump picked up 969 points with a leap of 20-11 ¼.

The winning score of 4,746 points by Texas A&M’s Tyra Gittens broke the collegiate and meet record of 4,703 set by Georgia’s Kendell Williams at the 2016 NCAA meet as well as her facility record of 4,678 set in the 2015 NCAA Championships. Anna Hall of Georgia, the SEC champion, scored 4,401 as the silver medalist.
