Chris Johnson earns first SEC Indoor Coach of the Year honor
BIRMINGHAM – First year Arkansas women’s head coach Chris Johnson earned his first SEC Indoor Coach of the Year honor following the Razorbacks convincing victory at the conference championships.
An assistant coach with Arkansas while the Razorbacks built a nine-year winning streak at the SEC Indoor Championships, Johnson added a 10th consecutive title and the 14th overall indoors in his initial year as head coach.
Arkansas totaled 131 points in the team victory, winning by 51 points, as they generated points in 14 of the 15 events they contested. It’s the third best scoring total by the Razorbacks in their 10-year run of titles, trailing 151 points in 2019 and 141 in 2021.
A total of 67 points were produced four events – the 200m, 400m, 800m and 4 x 400m relay. An impressive 1-2-3-4-7 finish in the 400m accounted for 31 of those points. The Razorbacks now rank 1-2-3-4 nationally following the conference weekend.
Arkansas has been ranked No. 1 six consecutive weeks and will have the most entries with 17 in the NCAA Indoor Championships being held this weekend in Boston.
