
Clark Races To Spot On National Team
CLOVIS, Calif. – Arkansas freshman Devin Clark was the top Razorback performer at the 2016 USATF Junior Championship racing to a spot on the national team with a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The American junior record holder in the event Clark cruised to a gold medal-meriting performance crossing the finish line two seconds ahead of the next best competitor in 10:31.11. As the top runner in the field, Clark will represent Team USA at the 2016 IAAF U20 World Championship on July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Other Notable Performances
In only her second attempt at the steeplechase, freshman Rachel Nichwitz dropped eight seconds from her previous personal best placing third in 10:36.55. Nichwitz narrowly missed joining Clark as a member of Team USA in the steeplechase edged out by Iowa State’s Kelly Naumann by three seconds.
The second-best quarter-mile hurdler in program history, Damajahnee Birch also finished among the top-five best in her event placing fourth in the 400 hurdle finals in 57.67.
