CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for Nastassja Campbell, Lauren Gregory

Arkansas track and field had a pair of Razorbacks – Nastassja Campbell and Lauren Gregory – named to the 2021-22 Academic All-America Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and the classroom.

Campbell, a communication major, garnered a first-team Academic All-America accolade this season after earning second team recognition last year. Campbell was among 12 of the 15 first-team Academic All-America members who produced a 4.0 grade point average.

Gregory, majoring in Biological Engineering, earned third-team Academic All-America. Her season included competing in all three NCAA Championship events, earning a total of four All-America honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.

Campbell also earned a first-team All-America honor during the NCAA Indoor Championships, placing eighth in the pole vault despite tearing her bicep during the competition. At the SEC Indoor Championships, Campbell claimed a bronze medal.

The injury during the NCAA Indoor pole vault prevented Campbell from competing for the Razorbacks during the outdoor season. Her season best indoor mark was a clearance of 14-7.25 (4.45) in Lubbock.

Gregory’s season included placing 19th in the NCAA cross country race, then finishing as the bronze medalist in the 3,000m and fourth in the 5,000m at the NCAA Indoor. During the NCAA Outdoor meet, Gregory finished fifth in the 5,000m.

In SEC Championship action, Gregory earned five medals. Indoors, she claimed gold in the 3,000m, along with silver in the mile and distance medley relay. Outdoors, Gregory collected silver in the 1,500m and bronze in the 5,000m.

Part of a collegiate record in the 4 x 1500m relay, Gregory ran third leg on the Arkansas victory in the Penn Relays. In her debut race at 10,000m, Gregory won the Stanford Invitational in a collegiate-leading 32:34.21, which ranked fourth among collegians by the end of the season. Her time of 15:25.17 in the 5,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays came within 0.07 of the Arkansas school record.

In all, 46 student-athletes were selected among first team (15), second team (15), and third-team (16) Academic All-America selections.

SEC student-athletes joining Campbell on the first team included LSU’s Lisa Gunnarsson and Kentucky’s Molly Leppelmeier. In addition to Gregory, other SEC student-athletes among the third team included Kentucky’s Jenna Gearing, Tennessee’s Hannah Jefcoat and Georgia’s Shelby Tyler.

Overall, the Arkansas women’s program has collected 43 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors by 31 student-athletes.

In the Razorbacks history with the CoSIDA Academic All-America program Tara Diebold earned the distinction three times. Two-time honorees include Kim Mount, Megan Flowers, Jessica Daily, Andreina Byrd, Jessica Johnson, Maureen Scott, Katie Stripling, Sandi Morris, Lexi Jacobus, Torri Hoggard, Taylor Werner, and Campbell.
