Darius Acuff Jr. on Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Watch List
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas freshman Darius Acuff Jr. has been named 1 of 20 players on the 2026 Bob Cousy Award, which goes to the nation’s top point guard, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.
The annual Bob Cousy Award, named after the Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard, celebrates its 23rd year by highlighting the top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball.
Acuff enters his rookie campaign as one of the top-rated freshmen in the country.
Coming out of high school, Acuff was the top-ranked point guard in the nation by 247Sports and ESPN and one of the top 10 players of the 2025 recruiting class. He also compiled the following honors this past season:
- 2025 Allen Iverson National Player of the Year
- 2025 EYBL Scholastic Player of the Year
- 1 of 5 Finalists for the 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Player of the Year
- 1 of 10 Finalists for the MaxPreps National Player of the Year
- 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Boys High School All-America (1st Team)
- 2025 McDonald’s All-American
- 2025 Jordan Brand Classic
- 2025 Iverson Classic All-American Game (MVP)
- 2025 USA Nike Hoop Summit team
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, October 31.
In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2026 Bob Cousy Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Cousy and the Hall of Fame’s selection committees, where winners will be selected.
The Selection Committees for the Bob Cousy and are composed of top college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers. The winner of the 2026 Cousy Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the four other members of the Men’s Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Julius Erving Award (Small Forward), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward), and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (Center).
