Divers Wrap Up Competition In Winter Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio. — Competition ended for the last of three Arkansas divers Monday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships.

Junior Nicole Gillis competed in the 3m prelims Monday morning, finishing in 14th place with a score of 213.90, good enough to advance to the semifinals in the afternoon. During the evening session, Gillis scored a 409.00 to finish 18th of the 28 divers who competed in the event.

Gillis continued to prove her dominance as one of the best collegiate divers in the country in the 1m springboard by recording a five-dive score of 240.00 in the prelims of the 1m springboard last Thursday, Dec. 15 to advance to Sunday’s finals where she finished eighth out of 20 with a total score of 471.55.

Along with Gillis, Marissa Green and Molly Harvie also made the trip to Columbus where they dove together in the synchronized 3m springboard on Friday, Dec. 16. The tandem finished eighth in the prelims, diving a 171.33. After advancing to the finals, Green and Harvie finished eighth with a score of 379.59.

The Razorbacks will take a break over the holidays before going on the road to compete in the Tennessee Diving Invite on Tuesday, Jan. 3-5, 2017. Arkansas swimmers will travel to Athens, Georgia, to face the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
