Fisher Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Colin Fisher was named the national pitcher of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after firing an eight-inning complete-game one-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts and no walks against Xavier to lead Arkansas to a weekend series sweep.

The junior left-hander from Noble, Okla., who was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week yesterday, shared the NCBWA’s national pitcher of the week award with Oregon State right-hander Dax Whitney.

Fisher threw only 86 pitches over a career-long eight innings and retired the final 20 batters he faced after an infield single in the second. His strong outing in Sunday’s finale against the Musketeers helped the Hogs put the final touches on their 33rd consecutive non-conference regular-season weekend series win at home.

Fisher recorded the Razorbacks’ first eight-inning complete-game shutout as well as the first eight-inning one-hitter in program history after Arkansas walked off Xavier in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn an 11-0 run-rule win.

Through two starts this season, Fisher has not allowed a run in 13.0 innings, boasting a 1-0 record with a team-leading 19 strikeouts. He has allowed only two hits and issued just two walks with opponents batting a meager .049 against him.
