Harter To Be Inducted Into CCAA Hall Of Fame

SAN RAMON, Calif. – Currently in his 27th season at the helm of the nationally-ranked Arkansas women’s track and field team, head coach Lance Harter has been selected to be inducted into the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Hall of Fame as part of the 2017 class.

Along with Harter, this season’s class includes former Cal Poly Pomona tennis coach and administrator Karen Miller; Cal Poly Pomona track and field/women’s basketball player Debra Larsen; Cal State Bakersfield track and field athlete Cecilia Barnes; and Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s soccer player Kevin Gallaugher.

Prior to his arrival in Fayetteville, Harter was a 10-time Division II Coach of the Year honoree as the head coach of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Harter led the Mustangs to 14 NCAA national championships, capturing eight straight victories in cross country from 1982 through 1989. In addition to their success at the national level Harter coached his squad to nine consecutive conference titles in both cross country and outdoor track.

Respected by his colleagues for his work on the collegiate circuit, Harter was tabbed as a coach for Team USA during the 1984 World Indoor Championship as well as the 1987 World Championship.

In the process of guiding a new batch of student-athletes, Harter’s Razorbacks have pulled in two NCAA national championships during the past two years. As the head coach at Arkansas, Harter has led the Razorbacks to 29 Southeastern Conference titles, including four SEC Triple Crowns. Arkansas remains undefeated in conference championships dating back to the 2014 outdoor meet. Harter’s squad currently ranks as the No. 2 team in the country.

The CCAA Hall of Fame ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at the Pomona Mining Company in Pomona.
