
Helfrick Named to Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ryder Helfrick has been named to the midseason watch list for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, presented by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.
The Razorback backstop is one of 56 players on the midseason watch list for the award honoring the nation’s top catcher. Semifinalists will be announced on May 19, and finalists will be revealed on June 5 before the winner is crowned at the Buster Posey Award Ceremony at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kan., on June 26.
Through 42 games this season, Helfrick is slashing .295/.413/.574 with six doubles, a team-leading two triples, eight home runs and 22 RBI. The sophomore from Discovery Bay, Calif., boasts an outstanding .992 fielding percentage with only three errors in 385 total chances, and has thrown out seven attempted base stealers on the year.
Helfrick’s numbers are even better in SEC play, slashing .311/.409/.595 with five homers and 13 RBI in 21 games. He has committed only one error in 222 total chances (.995 fielding percentage) and thrown out four attempted base stealers.
