Helfrick on Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List

WICHITA, Kan. – Ryder Helfrick has been named to the midseason watch list for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, given annually by the Wichita Sports Commission to the nation’s top collegiate catcher.

Helfrick, one of 50 players nationally and one of seven SEC backstops on the midseason watch list for the award, is slashing .290/.453/.600 with a team-leading nine home runs and 26 RBI through 29 games this season. He leads the Razorbacks in walks (33) and sacrifice flies (4), and is 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts this year.

The Discovery Bay, Calif., has made all 29 of his starts behind the plate, where he owns a .991 fielding percentage with just three errors in 322 total chances. Helfrick has also thrown out 5-of-24 attempted base stealers (20.8 percent).
